For someone new to practice, here is a list of deities which combine the functions of several in one Yidam:
COMBINATION DEITIES:
- WALPHUR KHYUNGMAR: RED GARUDA, VAJRAKILAYA (Bonpo)
- NYENPO LHA SUM: RED GARUDA, HAYAGRIVA, VAJRAPANI (Dudjom Tersar)
- GURU DRAGPO: RED GARUDA, HAYAGRIVA, VAJRAPANI (Rinchen Terdzö)
- TAKHYUNG BARWA: RED GARUDA, HAYAGRIVA, GURU DRAGPO (Jigme Lingpa)
- TAKHYUNG KILAYA: BLUE GARUDA, HAYAGRIVA, VAJRAPANI, VAJRAKILAYA (Lama Zabdon)
- GURU DRAGPHUR: RED GARUDA, HAYAGRIVA, VAJRAPANI, VAJRAKILAYA, YANGDAG HERUKA, GURU DRAGPO (Heka Lingpa)
The terma in which they are to be found is in brackets.
Such deities do have specific purposes but we must be aware that all have a common and central function as part of our path to enlightenment. They are Anuyoga and may also be incorporated into Dzogchen practice.
There is also a similar form called Tragpo Sumtril combining Garuda, Vapjrapani and Hayagriva in Gelugpa, as shown here:
How many different practices connected with Garuda there is?
Red Garuda – cancer.
That’s all?
There are other practices?
For example, black, yellow or green Garuda?
Hi.
There are many rituals for different purposes: http://bluegaruda.com/garuda-buddhist-sadhanas/
One form of Dark (Blue) Garuda whose empowerment I received recently has over 50 different applications, each with a different mantra etc.
Unfirtunately, I am not able to give details here.
It is impossible to say how many Hindu, Buddhist, Bon and Shamanic rituals there for Garuda. Mostly, Red and Blue/Dark/Black Garuda are the forms used, but their actual appearance and the applications vary greatly. Mostly, they are wrathful and are to counter/protect against harm from spirits, illness etc.
What do you say about the solar spirit in the tradition of the Slavs?
Do Raraszek / Ra rog, belongs to the same class of beings what Garuda?
Hi.
I haven’t encountered these deities. Do you have a good link which explains them? Thanks. 🙂
Garuda is of the nature of the Fire Element, if that helps. In Buddhist terms, he is a deity.
Solar and fire qualities are similar, but after a quick Google I can’t find any other similarities. The only reference I found to an emanation of Ra rog seems to be a lion.
Slavonic Raraszek/Żar Ptak(Heat/Glow Bird)

Recently I asked this question CzNN
but do not get a response:
“Every nation and the land area
have their old gods and spirits.
They are the sacred energy of your Earth.
With them, you should seek the agreement
and from them should
expected to help. “-Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche
“One should profess religion of his country”-Dalai Lama
“Some people are worried that in Buddhism there is no God.
In fact, in Buddhism there are many gods, but none of them is considered to be one God.” CzNN

I wonder
When I practicing a variety of teaching related to specific deities
for example, Arya Tara, Garuda etc.
Does this mean that I refer to the local deities of Tibet
(thus bypassing what Dalai Lama and Tenzin Wangyal they said)
or I refer to the gods, which in Tibet is called Garuda or Tara
but are the same gods that in other cultures they have different names?
For example hindu Surya = slavic Swarog,God of Sun
Garuda=Karura=Kania Ruda falcon,Raraszek/Raróg
We have different races, cultures and languages
but one Sun shines above us 🙂 right?
Yes, it is true that each part of the world has created deities and spirits. The links you sent me show a form of deity which is quite similar to Garuda, but I can’t see a direct link. There may well be one, though! 😉
It is also true that there has been a great deal of cross-fertilisation between cultures, so the deities and spirits have become shared.
In the UK people find it strange that I follow a Tibetan or Mongolian practice, yet Christianity certainly did not start in England! 😉
It isn’t necessary look for, or find, a link between Garuda and sun deities or bird deities from elsewhere in the world.
It is perfectly fine to practice a local religion and also Vajrayana. However, in the end you have to decide on your chosen ‘Refuge’ – do you place your trust and faith in Buddhism or in Pagan deities or Christ etc etc.?
For me, I am happy to perform my rituals without slapping on labels. If a monk performs mirror divination in one valley and a shaman perform mirror divination in the next valley, is there really much difference? I think not, but of course it’s up to you to decide which aspects of each culture you follow and practice. 🙂
By the way, if you ask ChNN a question, it must be brief. 😉

What is the purpose of these practices?
Is practices of Garuda do not exclude those that refer to Naga?
This is a specific rite for making a positive relationship with the Nagas. It takes place on specific auspicious days.
In Vajrayana Buddhism there are many offerings to spirits to request that they do not disrupt our practice etc. This is just one method:
http://dzogchen.gr/en/naga/
Garuda practice may be used to prevent harm from Nagas and to remove such harm by acting as an antidote, so a person may perform both Naga Rite and Garuda practice as they are complementary.
It was very interesting
in Poland have their own local deity, the Warsaw Mermaid
I think it’s our Slavic Naga or Lu 😀
‘People’ in the language of Slavs mean ‘ludzie’, Lu Dzie 😉
Slavs were called Dacians,Wenetowie – dragon tribe or the snake tribe
Maybe so Slavs are the descendants of the Nagas?

This is my Slavic tradition 🙂
but recently received a lungs from CzNN and I intend to join the community of Dzogchen.
Therefore I would like to practice practice yoga guru, ganapuja, Thun etc.
in such a way not to provoke the local spirits and deities
I would like to have a good relationship with the local guards and the forces of nature 😀
Excellent. Fire too! 🙂
ChNN teaches that Dzogchen and Guruyoga may be applied to any religion. In the Thuns you can also substitute Dragphur with a different deity if you want to. If you visit the forum: http://www.vajracakra.com you will find many of ChNN’s followers and also information which will answer many of your questions. You need to join the forum to see the discussions. 🙂
